7 Signs You Might Have Eye Cataracts
Are you having problems with your vision clouding? It could be cataracts, especially if you are over the age of 50. Reeve-Woods Eye Center is here to help. We have two offices – Chico & Paradise – that serve Californians. However, due to the forest fires of 2018, patients of the Paradise office are being seen at the Chico office.
Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes clouded and prevents light from entering the eye and being focused properly on the retina. This causes vision to distort and blur. It is more common in older adults and often affects only one eye at a time.
There are some common signs that you should be aware of which indicate a forming cataract:
Seeing halos around lights
Blurred, dim, or clouded vision
Fading or yellowing colors
Sensitivity to glare and light
Increased difficulty with night vision
Need for brighter light to see clearly
Double vision in one eye only
If you are experiencing one or more of the symptoms above, you should see an expert in ophthalmology. Specialized eye care is essential to stopping the progress of cataracts and their symptoms.
In the initial stages, cataracts can often be treated with the use of corrective lenses and stronger lighting. As they progress, however, the only treatment at this time is corrective surgery. This surgery is comprised of removing the deteriorating natural lens and swapping it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).
As a common procedure performed in the U.S., cataract surgery is safe and effective. Our eye care staff at Reeve Woods Eye Center will walk you through every step of the process from initial consultation to healing after surgery.
